Front Elevation of St. Joseph’s Hospital

A modern upfit benefiting caregivers and visitors alike.

Emergency Departments often serve as the front door and are patients’ first impression of a health care system. Working with Saint Joseph’s Candler Health System, Batson delivered a solution sensitive to the needs of caregivers and stakeholders while providing a new “front door” for Saint Joseph’s Hospital.

Expanded capacity through new construction and renovation.

Design included complete renovation and systems upgrade of the existing Emergency Department and an addition which provides an enlarged Emergency Department and Outpatient Waiting. The existing department was renovated to improve operational efficiency with 14 exam rooms arranged around a central, open nurse work area. New construction provided a low acuity, quick turnover treatment area with 18 additional exam rooms. Sitework associated with the project includes a new covered drop-off for the public and provisions for a separate ambulance driveway and drop-off/canopy. Approximately 15,500 SF of new construction and 7,700 SF of major renovation expand the capacity to 65,000 annual visits and provide a modern aesthetic for the Emergency Department.
